After such a great experience at the Red Roof PLUS+ in San Francisco, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t excited for my stay at the Chicago – Willowbrook location.
A seven hour drive, a day game at Wrigley Field, and roaming around downtown Chicago left me exhausted and looking forward to the comfort and customer service I knew I could count on from a Red Roof PLUS+ property. Receiving the signature NextLevel Service at the front desk, with enhanced customer service training and elevated customer interaction, I was promptly checked-in and flopping down on the comfy bed in my Premium King Room in no time at all. Just like San Francisco, within a few minutes I received a phone call to make sure that my accommodations were in tiptop shape — which they were!
Only booked for one night, I discovered the extremely spacious room and very large work area that is expected with the Red Roof PLUS+ Premium Room locations. The room was equipped with new furniture, a plush pillow-top mattress, a large flat-screen TV, modern wood-like flooring, and a 100% smoke-free designation. Having been out exploring all day, I quickly made use of the 6+ electrical outlets — a welcome sight to any travel blogger and photographer — to recharge my cameras, computer, and cell phone.
Another bonus was the fact that the hotel was located between a gas station and a Target, making it extremely easy and accessible for any travel needs that might arise. The hotel was also very conveniently located to the main highway that led into Chicago and most of the other attractions of interest. One thing I’ve come to really appreciate about Red Roof PLUS+ properties is just how clean the entire room and bathroom always are! You don’t always get that in hotels and I’ve been extremely pleased with the cleanliness and condition of both of the locations I’ve stayed at so far.
If you find yourself in the Chicago area, I certainly recommend a stay at this hotel — a place where you can escape the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoy a suburban setting, but still be a quick drive into downtown. It’s got all the modern amenities and facilitates your connection to both Chicago airports, downtown Chicago, as well as the attractions in both Willowbrook, Chicago, and it’s surrounding neighborhoods. I arrived at the Chicago – Willowbrook location with the bar set high and I wasn’t disappointed. Just like the Red Roof website says: “Adding more WOW to your stay!”
Red Roof is currently upgrading their Premium rooms at nearly 40 PLUS+ properties (Red Roof’s higher-end line) across the United States and are rolling out more PLUS+ locations in the near future.
The breakdown:
- Location: 30 minutes from downtown Chicago. 15 miles from Midway Airport & 22 miles from O’Hare International Airport.
- Clientele: Great for families and business travelers alike.
- Technology: Fast wi-fi, free for an unlimited number of devices. 6+ electrical outlets for all your technology charging needs. 37″ flat-screen TV.
- Beds: Plush pillow-top mattress. Lots of pillows. No problem sleeping for the easy-sleeper and the insomniac.
- Rooms: Very nice size. Perfect for a traveling couple or a solo traveler who likes their space. All rooms are 100% smoke-free!
- Amenities: Free wi-fi, telephone, desk with a proper office chair, armchair, microwave, mini-refrigerator, Seattle’s Best In-Room Coffee, iron/ironing board, and hair dryer, pets stay free.
- Bathroom: Plenty of soaps, towels, and a powerful shower head with multiple settings and plenty of hot water. Modern vessel sink.
- Dining: Red Roof’s new Order Inn program, where guests can order delicious food for in-room delivery. Free coffee and tea available in the lobby. Many restaurants within a few minutes — I recommend Oishi Sushi.
- Staff: The entire staff was very friendly and helpful. The NextLevel Service certainly shines through!
- Cleanliness: Rooms are very clean! 100% smoke free.
- Distractions: None to speak of.
- Attractions: Downtown Chicago, Millennium Park, Wrigley Field, Lincoln Park Zoo, Cypress Cove Family Aquatic Park, and Morton Arboretum.
- Snacks & Such: Complimentary welcome snack box containing bottled water, popcorn, orange juice, trail mix and two Nature Valley granola bars. Hotel is sandwiched between a gas station & Target — very convenient for all your needs.
- Value: If you aren’t there in high season, it’s a score. During high season (Memorial Day to Labor Day), prices are still very reasonable. Highly recommended any time of year.
